CIDB Honors Top Builders in the COUNTRY, Malaysia. 1st Builders, a sister company of Mansion Builders won a nationwide competition by the Malaysian Government, being the only company who won the award outside the klang valley. THE crème de la crème of the construction industry was awarded a prestigious award by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) last night.

CIDB’S Malaysian Construction Industry Excellence Award, now in its 12th year, saw the big guns of the industry honored for their competence and competitiveness.

“Our goal is to recognize those individuals and organizations who have contributed and demonstrated all-around excellence in performance, improvement and enhancement of the industry’s image while also providing healthy competition in project implementation,” said CIDB chief executive Datuk Seri Judin Abd Karim at a press conference to announce the winner before the award presentation ceremony last night.

The award were presented by chief secretary to the government Datuk Seri Dr Ali Hamsa to the 13 winners in five categories, the Contractor Award, Project Award, International Achievement Award, Special Award for Innovation and Prominent Player Award. The Prominent Player Award was presented to Datuk Ng Kee Leen, an executive director of Gamuda Bhd.

Ng said he was genuinely surprised to receive the award but was never the less honoured that he was picked.

“ I have been in the construction business for 40 years,” he said, to the amusement of his peers who were also present to receive various awards.

They were from IJM Construction Sdn Bhd (for the G7 category), Putra Sentosa Enterprise (G6), Moncheh Technology (M) Sdn Bhd (G5), Renoplex Sdn bhd (G4), Kluang Setia Development Sdn Bhd (G3), 1st Builders Sdn Bhd (G2), and Double R Enterprise (G1).

The G1 category is for contractors with project values of not more than RM200,000 while the G7 category refers to an unlimited project value.

The MCIEA award in the major project category was bagged by Bina Puri Construction Sdn Bhd for designing, constructing and completing the main line bridge of the Proposed Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) in Johor Baru.

The winner for the medium-scale project went to Kluang setia Development for its proposed housing development on Kluang, Johor.

The award for small-scale projects went to Digione Malaysia Sdn Bhd for building the main façade and fitted glass structure at Naza Kia Malaysia in
Petaling Jaya.

The International Achievement Award was presented to Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd for the construction of Zayed Sports City Development, Phase 1A in Abu Dhabi.

The special award for innovation went to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia for DNA Damper System.
The award recipients underwent an assessment process in two-tier evaluation system. The panel of assessors comprises 29 individuals in senior management positions from 21 construction-related organization across the industry. The panel of judges was chaired by Tan Sri Dr Jamilus Hussien. He was assisted by renowned individuals in the construction industry namely Datuk Seri Esa Mohamed. Datuk Seri Kandan Kanagainthiram. Datuk Ng Seing

Liong, Datuk Dr Abdul Rashid Maidin and Zahrin Othman.

The panel of assessors comprises 29 individuals in senior management positions from 21 construction-related organization across the industry.
